KPN Mobile RadioKPN division IMS Private Mobile Radio
Project background Recently new dispatch rooms were set up in which police, fire department and ambulance services use the same dispatch room. These rooms use the new C2000- communication system and equipment, all radio equipment is operated by one dispatch worker through a personal computer. The decision was made to remove all personal computers from the desks, and place them all in one central technical area, so the radio equipment could be managed from there. KPN developed a new audio console to replace the old consoles which took up too much space. The solution Prior to this stage KPN was advised by the Black Box Tech Support crew about the best solution for this situation. They wished to service and maintain the system remotely. Black Box advised KVM-switches (among which the ServSwitch and Wizard) combined with single and multiple KVM-extenders. This enabled them to move the personal computers to one technical area. A demo was organized at the Dutch Black Box office and seeing the application 'live' convinced KPN and their client that this solution suited the application. The application This new set-up gives the centralist the use of a key board, the audio console, a computers mouse and a few computer screens with which he can monitor the situation by registering and gathering information. Through the C2000-monitor he can select the service he wants to communicate with. The only thing he has to do is push one button to send a signal to the selected service. Because service and maintenance of the equipment takes place in the central technical area the dispatch workers are not disturbed during their working hours. And because of standardization and the modulair set up of the equipment it's relatively easy to expand the dispatch room when needed. KPN is responsible for maintenance inside the dispatch rooms, for which they have signed a maintenance agreement with Black Box. Mr. Taal about Black Box: |
