ENECO's division 'Toonfrequent' is responsible for switching off and on the street lighting and day- and night power in the regions of Rotterdam, The Hague and Delft. Because they recently transferred to a new operating system, they needed a new network connection to centrally operate of all locations in the region. They asked the division 'Bedrijf Telecom Net' (BTN) to help them install a new computer network.

The BTN division looked for a supplier that could deliver products for this complex project, and found Black Box Network Services. A Black Box technical specialist visited the Eneco locations to get an impression of existing cabling, and adapted the proposed products to the present situation.

A few locations were already joined through a G.703-connection (fiber optic or lease line). By using Ethernet-to-G.703 bridges (LBU2090) the existing G.703-connections could be used to set up a transparent Ethernet-network connection. The other locations used copper connections. G.SHDSL L2/3 network extenders were used to bridge the relatively long (approx. 8 kilometers) distance between these locations.
Guided by Black Box Tech Support over the telephone BTN was able to install ENECO's first telecom network themselves.
Now everything operates as desired; the employees from the Division Toonfrequent can operate from every location, which saves them a lot of time traveling between locations.
